Nestled deep within the Alaskan wilderness, just an hour's drive from Palmer, lies a place unlike any other. On Victory Road, surrounded by towering trees and mirrored lakes, a resort stands quiet and serene after the summer rush. It’s a place of magic, of healing, and of connection. During the summer months, this enchanting space hosts hundreds of children and teens at a Bible camp. Yet, for the rest of the year, the Stewart family opens its doors to a unique group of travelers — Israelis, seeking refuge and peace far from home.

We discovered this Alaskan haven through Planet Zula, a global volunteer network that connects Israeli travelers with hosts around the world. The Stewart family, through their immense hospitality, has created a retreat where Israeli families can escape, rejuvenate, and experience the breathtaking natural beauty of Alaska — free of charge.
Our journey to Glacier View brought us to the Stewart family’s resort, where we stayed for two unforgettable nights. It was clear from the start that this place offers everything a family could need for both excitement and peace. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Matanuska Glacier and the fiery autumn colors of the surrounding forests, the resort’s mirror-like lake reflects the vivid yellows and oranges, creating a tranquil atmosphere that feels worlds away from the chaos of everyday life.

Horseback riding through the vast, rugged landscape, exploring nature trails, and kayaking on the crystal-clear waters were just a few of the activities that filled our days. The gym — equipped for basketball and volleyball — provided endless entertainment, while the opportunity for dog sledding offered a unique taste of Alaskan adventure. But beyond the activities, what struck us most was the sense of calm and healing this space provided, particularly for those, like us, who carry the heavy weight of trauma from recent events.

The Stewart family themselves have a fascinating story. They spent years living among Alaska's indigenous communities, dedicating their lives to supporting these remote populations. In the aftermath of the October 7th atrocities in Israel, they chose to relocate closer to Anchorage. Their mission was clear: to create a safe, nurturing space for Israelis to heal, recover, and find solace amidst Alaska's wild beauty.
We found ourselves deeply connected to the Stewart family, who welcomed us not just as guests, but as friends. Their commitment to creating a healing environment for Israelis moved us profoundly. It was clear that their decision to host Israeli travelers was not just an act of kindness, but a deeply personal mission to support those affected by trauma.

As we prepare to return next fall, we are working closely with the Stewart family to expand their offering. Together, we plan to bring Israeli veterans and victims of terror for an extended stay, creating a program specifically designed for post-traumatic recovery. This collaboration will offer a space where those who have endured unimaginable horrors can begin the long process of healing, surrounded by the majestic beauty of Alaska and the warmth of the Stewart family.
In just two short days, this remote corner of the world became a sanctuary for us. And as we left, we knew we had found not just a retreat, but a community — one that stands ready to welcome and heal Israelis for years to come.
